Abstract
This study aims to explore the perception of the older workers and workforce-related policies by generation to find the future direction in our society ahead of a super-aged society. Focus group interviews were conducted with 20 private sector employees in their 20s to 50s. Data were analyzed using a thematic textual analysis. The results showed that the perception of the older workers was very different by age groups. The younger generation showed a negative perception of the abilities of the older workforce, and the older generation complained because they were ignored by the organization and the younger generation, even though their abilities and capabilities were not lagging behind. Regarding personnel policy, younger group generally showed conformity to the seniority system. In general, the younger generation expressed the opinion that it was good to be able to work for a long time even with a pay cut, whereas the older generation insisted that jobs suitable for their roles be given until retirement, and that they should receive appropriate compensation. Based on these results, in-depth discussions were made on ways to raise awareness of inclusiveness among members of the organization and enable older workers to play a productive role in our society.
